Micah Kurtz is in his 8th year as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at AC Flora high school in Columbia, South Carolina. During his time at Flora, the baseball team has won 3 state championships in the past 5 years and the boys’ basketball team has won the state championship 2 out of the last 3 years. Also the boys’ soccer and tennis teams won state championships in 2015 and the boy’s golf team has won 7 straight state championships. AC Flora was named the #1 athletic program in the Columbia metropolitan area by the State Newspaper in both 2014 and 2015.
Prior to coming to AC Flora, Coach Kurtz was a GA Strength and Conditioning Coach for the University of South Carolina baseball team. During his time there he trained many Gamecock greats including, Justin Smoak, Whit Merrifield and Scott Wingo.
Coach Kurtz was named the National Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 2016 by the NSCA and has been named the South Carolina Strength and Conditioning Coach of the year in both 2013 and 2014.
Coach Kurtz has spoke at strength and conditioning clinics throughout the east coast and in China and Hong Kong. He is the State Director of the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) South Carolina Chapter and is a member of the Subject Matter Expert Committee with the NSCA.
Coach Kurtz is a National Board Certified Teacher, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction, a USA Weight Lifting Certified Sport’s Performance Coach, a National Association Speed and Explosion Specialist and a Level II Functional Movement Screen Certified Coach.
